Week 6 Monday October 8th - 12th 2012
This week you saw your first film in English, The Visitor and we worked around that for the rest of the week. You seem to have enjoyed it and have understood the story line rather well. You even managed to link it to the notions it conveys.
We will finish off this work next Tuesday. Please finish questions 8 to the end on the worksheets I gave you.

Week 5 Monday October 1st - 6th 2012
We only saw eachother twice this week because of a general staff meeting with our new Headmistress on Tuesday. In the first period you finished off your research on the American Myth or Reality then in the second period on Friday you explained to the rest of the class what you had learnt and some of them asked questions.
The desire is there however now you will have to learn how to learn the info rather than reading it and to become more and more aware of the others. Listen to your fellow classmates and don't chat, which is extremely incorrect, whilst they are speaking.
We are on the right track but there is still a lot of work to do.
DON'T FORGET THAT WE ARE GOING TO THE CINEMA ON TUESDAY MORNING.

This week you had a test on the notions then we started working on the visual document page 17 Meeting Point, The Geek. We worked on this cartoon together to show you how to introduce, describe, analyse or interpret, link to a notion, conclude and give your opinion about a visual document.
On Friday, in the Multimedia room yu started working on differnt visual documents concerning the American myth or reality. WE WILL CONTINUE WITH THIS NEXT WEEK;

Week 34 Monday May 25th-30th 2009
Ionly saw two of you in class this week and others in the corridors now and again . I know you are in school working but don't put all your eggs in the same basket ! You might get a nasty surprise .

There are fewer and fewer of you attending class but with those present we are getting along quite nicely working on some old papers and reminding you of the techniques and methods .

Well, what a short week ! Infact with Ascension Thursday then your work for you management dossier on Friday , I only saw you once ! Don't forget I might come across as a stickler but I really believe in mutual respect .

This week you were very busy in your orals, either English, Spanish or German . I too was involved in your exams on Monday .
So we finally got together on Thursday . We started up on our last methodology and technique workshop which we will be continuing over the next few weeks to get you in shape for your final exams .

Week 30 April 27 - Mai 2 2009
This week was spent in tests around relocation and fair trade. On Monday you had a comprehension paper then on Thursday you had to present a product and try to convince us to buy it, even if it was a fair trade one !
It was also our last lesson with the assisant . She was rather upset but promised to give us news, hoping to return as soon as possible to France .
I will not be there next week so use your lesson time to revise for your orals which will take place the week after either May 11th or 12th .

Week 27 April 6th - April 11th 2009
This week we continued working around the theme of relocation and then fairtrade .
You all appreciated the Big Box Mart song so here it is . YOU SHOULD TRY TO FIND OUT WHERE THE MUSIC CAME FROM AND WHY IT WAS USED TO TALK ABOUT OUTSOURCING . Google it or go to Wiki and you should have no trouble finding it !!!!!

You will be having two tests after the holidays, the first comprehension and written expression to see if you have learnt the new vocabulary and the second an oral expression exercise inwhich you have to convince us to buy your fair trade product !
Be inventive yet firm !

This week started working on Fair trade by introducing, through visual documents , some basic vocabulary such as outsourcing, offshoring, relocation, unemployment , benefits, profits, pink slip and so on .
We came to the conclusion that if such a practice benefited the inhabitants of the developing or underdeveloped countries by giving them work at the same time the relocation of jobs would leave many unemployed elsewhere .
You had to find other advantages and disadvantages for the lesson on Monday .
In the group lesson on Thursday we, the assistant and I in our respective groups gave you the oppotunity once again to work on visual documents in order to prepare your oral exam .

Only one lesson this week because of a teachers' pedagogical meeting and the Cambridge Certification exam I am involved in .
I took in your work on Bill Bryson's text ' Junk Food Heaven ' and we went over your work on 'Store Wars ' thus completing our chapter on junk food .
We will be starting on Fair Trade next Monday.

Week 23 Monday, 9th- Saturday 14th March 2009
This week we started a new topic, Fast food . To begin we looked at two different types of American eating habits, described them, commented and contrasted them .
Having done this we looked at a chart of the world's top twelve giants in the food industry and concluded that the Americans came out top . What could this reflect about their eating habits ?
Another visual document was viewed in which obese people were demonstrating but to show how proud they were of their bodies !
We pulled together all of this information using linkwords of comparison and contrast .
In the second session one group worked with the assistant around visual documents in order to build up your vocabulary on the subject and train you for your final exam whilst the others were doing a similar sort of thing with me dealing especially with genetically modified food in comparison to junk food .
In the third session, together again, we started on the text by Bill BRYSON, an American author . You have to finish this for March 23rd . As you know I am travelling to London next week with the European section .
I would also like you to watch the following video and complete the question sheet I gave you about it .

This week has been rather strange since you have all been in some form of mock exam or other depending on your year level !

Due to the European mock exams we only saw eachother twice this week and then you were either in a group session , on Thusrsday or in your written expression test on Immigration .
During the group session we reviewed , using different visual and written material,the basic ideas covered in the sequence .
You had taken your mock oral exams this week too . Some of you did fairly well , others not ! Don't forget you can all do it , don't panic and use all the advice I have tried to give you this last year .
Have a nice holiday but work too , you have mock exams in all subjects in the first week back at high school .

Week 19 Monday January 26th - 31st 2009
This week we finished of fthe work on The Visitor then got back into Don't Send me Back , a text about immigration but that of a Russian Jew at the beginning of the 20th century !
We learn that he is passed from immigration officer to doctor , from room to room , like an animal . The last doctor he sees , however , is described as human , handsome and somewhat kind . He must be from a family whose members passed through Ellis Island at some time in the passed and he obviously understands Jacobs anguish and stress !
Then we started our final document entitled Immigration a Source of our Strength , this you have to read and prepare the vocabulary for next Monday .

This week we finished off the background information about immigration and started working on the text Don't send Me Back . This you introduced and we studied the first 15 lines . You had to finish reading the text and be ready for questions next Monday .
On Thursday group B saw the assistant whilst I was in a trade union meeting .
As for Friday's lesson , we went over the questions about the film we had seen the day before .
You all seem to have appreciated The Visitor as much as I do . I am very pleased about that !
