Week 19 Monday January 30th- February 4th 2012
We only saw each other one hour this week due to the mock oral exams. We almost finished the correction of your last test. We will finish going over this next week and answer all of your questions before the mock exams.
Week 13 Monday 5th-10th 2011
This week we finished working on the text entitled Welcome to Nollywood, then started on film reviews, trailers and dialogues.
You worked, in the multimedia lab, on different films. Your task is to gather the necessary information in order to write a dialogue including a film from the three main film industries. That is why you were doing your reseach.
Next Friday, Dec 16th, you will have to write a dialogue, English style, in which you use talk about at least one film from each of the three main industries. Don't forget there is an odd man out . You will have a CE too.
Revise well for your exams next week!

Week 12 Monday Nov 28th- Dec 3rd 2011
This week we started by going over your last CE test on the Kenyan Youth and Steve Jobs.It was more difficult than you had thought.
After this correction we started on the next text concerning Nollywood, the third film industry in the world.
We picked things out from the text and tried to see how it had been constructed. Your homework for Tuesday is to divide the text into parts, giving relevant titles for each.I also gave you some matching vocab exercises to do.

We only saw each other once this week due to the bank holiday on Friday. During the lesson you wrote a cover letter, which you had prepared at home, if you were wise, presented correctly answering a gap year ad.
APPARENTLY MANY OF YOU HAD NOT REALLY PLAYED THE GAME CORRECTLY, WHAT A PITY!

A rather short week indeed for some of you with only one hour because of the Monday bank holiday . We continued on our comprehension work , looking at and commenting on former exam papers .
Your 'conseil' was on Friday and went quite well for a lot of you . I hope to see some of you again before the end of the year, which is Wednesday officially . However if you are busy revising , work well !
I'll keep my fingers crossed for everybody in the next few weeks and will be feeling as bad as you too !
GOOD LUCK !

This week we finished off the work around Gun Violence in the States and then plunged straight into last year's paper !
Yes, there is no rest for the wicked !!!!
You have to continue working on this for Wednesday 3rd June .
In our group session we killed two birds with one stone by getting into grammar revision as well as how to do a commentary . I know, I know this is a touchy spot , however if ever you need it I will be around to help you out .
See you next Wednesday !

I saw very few of you on Monday due to your sports exam so on Wednesday we continued working on ' Childhood's End ' and your questions .
In the group session we looked at what would be expected of you if zever you chose English ' au rattrapage ' . This notion doesn't exist as such in the British education system so no expression for it ! I will bring in some more documents to help you .
We will finish off this topic next week and then attack a new text .
Have a nice weekend !

Week 32 May 11-16 2009
We only had class for two hours on Wednesday since on Monday I was involved in the TSGT orals . We discussed your last tests CE, EE then began on our final method and techniques workshop .
Yes, you were given two different texts A and B and asked in two groups to read and understand them in order to prepare a work sheet , exam style , about them !
You really played the game well . However I am still waiting for the final results which two of you were to send to me by mail !
We will exchange these questions next week and compare answers .
MY idea is this; that if you know what is being looked for in a text, you've understood it . After that we must perfect your expression so that you can gain as many points as possible !

Week 25 March 23rd - 28th 2009
This week we finished off the work on 'Eveline ' then looked at another visual document in order to express the wishes and regrets of the young .
Having done this you were informed of your test on Monday March 30th . You were also given an exercise to do around the basic grammar mistakes you all can make sometime or another !
This you have to pass in on Monday 30th too .
I then handed out work around India, a general information sheet , a photo with a worksheet on Gandhi in London, and a text . You have to prepare these for your next lesson on Monday April 6th. I will not be in school next Wednesday since I have to go to mark some papers for the Cambridge Certification exam taken by the fifth form European class .
At 11.30 we went to listen to a speaker from the American Embassy about the General Elections . She spotted one or two of you and your good English so we hope that you will be able to participate in the Junior Ambassador competition !
Good luck to you and fight all the way !!!!!

This week, having corrected your last test, we started on a very literary text, Eveline by James Joyce . This sequence as I suppose you have already guessed is around dilemma, the anguish caused by having to choose in a variety of circumstances !
We more or less finished the text and I gave you some work to complete on the same subject, an ordering exercise and a picture .
Have fun ! Don't forget I am away next week in London with some of your fellow classmates so use the time correctly !

Week 20 Monday Febuary 2nd - 7th 2009
This week , once the background information was completed and Ellis Island made known to you we studied a text entitled On the Threshold of a New World in which we learnt about the experiences of an immigrant who must have been a Russian Jew who could have belonged to a rather wealthy family and was obviosly extremely cultivated and well educated .
He however was treated like an animal in the same way as the other immigrants , humiliated by the ' big fat man ' and passed on from to room to be checked over for contagious diseases as well as to be checked out intellectually !
His confident attitude and lack of awareness as to the seriousness of his situation ended by disgusting ' the pretty young lady with cold eyes ' . She looked at him as if he were a madman when he said he was a writer and scoffed at him when he seemed to think he could make a living of such an activity in the States !
Our young hero however was very ambitious and wished he could become a wealthy man , married to a Norwegian lady . He wished he could fulfil the American dream and even if he had to start from scratch saw himself climbing up the social ladder .
Little did he know then , as he learnt later , that being a writer in the USA was not as easy as he had thought .
You must know this text fairly well along with the background information for your test on Immigration next Wednesday , February 11 th .
Have a nice weekend !

Week 19 Monday January 26th - 31st 2009
This week seems to have been short but eventful ! On Monday we finished off some background information about the waves and reasons of immigration then you were given two texts on Ellis Island . These you have to prepare for next Monday .
On Wednesday you all attended a meeting with Eddy Harris . It seems to gone very well , on both sides ! He apparently found you all "really great and is not sure as to whom the meeting benefited the most . "
Those are his words as sent to my by his public relations person here in Paris . So you can feel proud of yourselves but don't let those heads swell too much !
We must get back down to earth next week in order to finish preparing your next test which will take place on Wednesday 11th February about immigration of course !
Have a nice weekend !

This week was spent working around the cartoon introduction to Immigration . You had to describe one cartoon in detail and talk in general about what the overall subject inspired in you .
You came to the conclusion that America was not always the land of freedom and welcome !
You were then given some documents on the background information which I expect you to have completed for the next lesson .
During the group session we finished working around the basics . You will be having an evaluation soon .
On Thursday morning we went to the cinema to see The Visitor . Be ready to talk about it next week .
