Week 27 Monday April 30th - May 5th 2012
This Monday was your last session with us since you had your European orals on Wednesday and Thursday. I do hope they went well.
We were out too evaluating some of your fellow year mates in the same exam. Some really impressed me whilst others were on the border line. However not many failed completely.
To help you with your written English I will be there for you at the normal lesson times. So do come and practice 'til your heart's content!

Week 25 Monday April 2nd-7th 2012
There was only one class this week, due to Cambridge Certification oral exams on Monday morning, in which we had the visit of an 'old' student who came to inform you about his studies in the sector of management and communication. He also gave you a few hints about your exams and the importance of the European section.
I personally will not see you in class next week because of other professional engagements however your History teacher will be there to inform you about your coming exam, hand you a copy of all the subjects you've studied in the section and give you some last pieces of advice. I will see you on April 30th for any last questions before your orals.
Keep smiling, have a bit of a rest but get down to some serious work too! You will be receiving your convocation for the up and coming exams very soon.

Week 24 Monday March 26th-31st 2012
This week the two hours were taken up with your group speeches on decolonisation especially in India, certain African countries and the particular case of South Africa and Rhodesia. There is still a group to pass but in general you have given some pretty good information. Some of the English still needs to be checked though!
Don't forget there is no class on Monday then on Wednesday with a reduced effective we will be welcoming an 'old Jacques Brel pupil' who is coming to talk about the studies he has done since passing his exams and so on.

Week 23 Monday March 19th-24th 2012
This week, having talked a little about the trip to England, we continued working on decolonisation by going over a time line then you had to start preparing in groups some speeches about the process on different continents and in slightly different situations.
Be ready next Monday to talk about the decolonisation of India, Kenya and the white settlers in South Africa and Apartheid.
Those of you on your trip to Italy will have to work together and be ready for next Wednesday or the Monday after.

This week we worked on the documents about decolonisation and finished off a three part plan on the subject.
You were given some work to do for March 19th. Next week some of us will be in England!

This week we went over your mock exam performance then continued work on Decolinisation of the British Empire.

This week we finished off the document concerning Chiquita then started ona new History sequence concerning Decolonisation. We had a visitor in the class and she was impressed by the quality of your English.

This week we continued working on Globalisation and checked over your out line for a possible subject about it. We then started looking at the text Chiquita. We will continue with this work next week.

This week we started by defining what was meant by the term globalisation then you were given some exercises to do in connection with this very process. You continued these , going over some of them, on Wednesday.

We only saw each other once this week when we finished off the speeches on the crises of the Cold War.

Week 13 Monday 5th-10th Dec 2011
This week we started with your research in the CDI on the Cold War crises and continued on Wednesday with your oral productions . We will continue this next Wednesday. You have a test History/Geography on Monday.
Week 12 Monday Nov 28th- Dec 3rd 2011
This week we continued working on the Cold War as depicted through certain American films.. We continued with a second extract from Red Dawn then started on other documents concerning the same subject. We will continue with those next week.

This week we continued working on the Cold War by watching the film The Russians are Coming.We viewed the scene when the Russians arrived at the house, pretending they weren't Russians infact but Norwegians. The message of the film maker was that the Russians weren't as bad as they were made out to be. This film clearly reflects the period of the Detente.
The second film we viewed was entitled Red Dawn. This was quite another kettle of fish! Indeed, we witnessed scenes of barbary and violence fit of the Mongols. A group of foreign soldiers arrived in a small town and killed everyone insight without any apparent reason other than being allies of the Russians.
This time the message was crystal clear, that is to say all Russians and their friends are barbaric and violent . They are enemies of the Americans.
We will continue with this next week.

This week we had a debate on The American Model then on Wednesday we started work on The Cold War. Firstly we brainstormed everything we knew about the period then we watched the credits of the film The Russians are Coming, situated in the period of detente.

This week we finished off the work on Sicko about the American model and the health system in the USA, GB and France.
You will be having a debate about this next Monday. The motion is that The American model is better than any other in the world. Be ready with your arguments for or against.

Week 7 Monday October 17th-22nd 2011
This week we began by giving you back your evaluation, commenting and answering your questions. It wasn't too bad considering however there are still too many silly mistakes in the English express which you really need to clean up! I know you will be passing an oral exam in the European section but don't forget you must get 12/20 in the normal LV1 paper.
Then on Wednesday 4 of you went out to work with the assistant on your general conversation work for the exam whilst the rtest of us continued with SICKO and the American Model.

Week 6 Monday Oct 10th - 19th 2011
This week was spent in a test on Monday then on Wednesday, after an initial introduction to Hannah, the American assistant, we started working on the American model by viewing a part of SICKO, a film by Michael Moore, the American film maker.
A lot of you were shocked by what you saw. We will continue with this next week. Hannah will be taking a few of you each Wednesday to prepare the second part of your oral exam. Don't forget to catch up on any class work missed.
