Week 9 Monday Nov 7th-12th 2011

This week you finished off the work on the UK being or not a pro European country and you had a debate on the subject.

Having started off slowly some of you started getting into the swing of things and actually began answering eachother as one should.

Those of you who didn't speak have 0/10 and have to write up the summary of the meeting!

Week 31 Monday May 9th-14th 2011

Since you sat your European orals last week the class as such no longer exists. I have, however, suggested to any and all off you to come along and practice for your written exam. We will be working on methodology, your written expression and comprehension by taking a look at some old texts.

Last Wednesday even certain pupils from outside of the section took the opportunity and joined in!

If you plan being there at 8.20 on Monday mornings please inform me before hand, given the 'optional quality' of the class I don't want to hang around waiting for nothing!!! THANKS

Week 30 Monday May 2nd - 7th 2011

This week we only saw a few of you in class since it was your exam week. I hope everything went well for you all. I will be in room 120 for anyone who wants to come along and do a bit of revision for their written exam, as from Wednesday 11th. If anyone wants to see me on a Monday morning please feel free to take an appointment and respect it! I will be there for you.

Week 29 Tuesday 26th-30th April 2011

We only saw each other once this week to discover that you will be in you exams next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday! So we went over the last subject, the USA its power and its limits and passed you the relevant papers you'll need for your exams.

Revise well and thoroughly for them, dress correctly as I said!

We will obviously be there on Monday morning for any of you who might have their last questions.

Room 120 will be open so do come along.

Week 25 Monday March 28th-April 2nd 2011

This week we continued working on the USA and its supremacy in the world. You will have to create the plan for a speech on the subject for after the Spring holidays. Will those of you who have not passed in your scrapbooks do so before Monday. If you don't you will lose 20 points for your team!

Week 24 Monday March 21th-26th 2011

This week, after a brief informal talk about the trips to Ireland and Spain, we began working on America, the Super Power. We will continue with this next week.

Week 20 Monday Feb 7th-12th 2011

This week we worked on the British colonies, protectorates and dominions in general then more specifically in Asia.

We will finish off this work after the holidays.

Don't forget to sort out your official papers, you Carte Vitale Européenne especially, for those of you who are travelling with us to Ireland!

Week 19 Monday Jan 29th - Feb 5th 2011

Your first lesson this week was spent on the debate about .Globalisation. It went rather well however those of you who did not participate are 'cutting off your noses to spite your faces'. See if you can find the French equivalent!!!!

Then on Wednesday with the few who were present we started on the former British colonies, dominions and protectorates. We will continue this next week.

Week 17 Monday January 17th-22nd 2011

This week you had a triparty test on Globalisation then on Wednesday we listened to those who had been absent on Monday and gave a general correction!

Please think about the pronunciation of certain words such as globalisation [ai / EYE ] or The Ivory Coast [ ai / EYE ]. You should know how to pronounce them.

Next week is the mock exams for all the orals and that means YOU LOT. Be ready!

See you in room 120 for most of you.

Week 16 Monday January 10th-17th 2011

This week we finished off the general work on Globalisation then started a study on an examplke of a Transnational firm, Chiquita.

You have to prepare a speech about this subject for next Monday when you will be working in groups of three to both listen to and mark eachother.

Don't forget your mock oral exams will take place on January 26th and 27th. You will be tested on everything we have covered uptil now!

Week 15 Monday January 3rd - 8th 2011

This week we spent most of our time listening to your speeches on Globalisation. Some of them were very good indeed. However you must always have the time factor in mind when preparing anything. Don't forget that you have 10 minutes for your speech and 10 minutes for your general conversation.

You will be having your mock exams in the week starting Monday January 24th and will be expected to be able to talk about subject we have covered uptil then.

Good luck with your revision. Don't forget to take into consideration the sessions you've had with your assistant!

Week 13 Monday Dec 6th-11th 2010

This week we finished off listening to your speeches on the crises of the Cold War period then started a new geography chapter on Globalisation. in order to introduce the topic you were given the WTO's manifesto inwhich you had to pick out the four reasons put forward for adhering to free trade. Then you were given a speech to prepare, with documents, on the same subject. Be ready for January 3rd.

Next week in the European section time slots you will be in exams so good luck!

Week 12 Monday Nov 29th-Dec 4th 2010

This week you finished off your preparation for your talks on the Cold War crises then we started listening to them on Wednesday. We only managed to view three groups. The others will pass next Monday.

Week 11 Monday Nov 22nd-27th 2010

This week we finished off the work on the film Red Dawn, with Patrick Swayes then after this introductory period to the Cold War you were put into six groups and given two class hours in which to document yourselves on a given crisis.

You will pass next Wednesday thus sharing your information with the others of the class.

Week 10 Monday Nov 15-20 2010

This week we continued working on The Cold War by viewing certain extracts out of some American films. The extracts chosen show the different attitudes towards the Russian block depending on the period when the film was made. The earlier film around 1954, was very critical of the 'enemy', whereas in The Detente, which we had difficulty viewing unfortunately the film maker's is even quite amusing and light.

The last extract will be continued next week so come ready to analyse. You were all quite engrossed in the film to say the least, which I can quite understand!

Week 9 Monday Nov 8th-13th 2010

This week you worked with the assistant on Monday then more or less finished off the work on the American Model.

Having completed this we delved into the Cold War period by viewing extracts from Fail Safe, a film very much in the same vein as Dr Strangelove. We will continue with this next week.

Week 7 Monday October 18th 23rd 2010

What a week!

Only two of you met our American assistant then ten of you braved the storm on Wednesday and spoke about the American model!

Be ready to talk about this again on the 8th Nov. The assistant will be there with your H/G teacher. I unfortunately will not have this pleasure. Be ready with some pertinent questions for the assistant.

Have a nice holiday nonetheless!

Week 5 Monday October 4th-9th 2010

This week we finished off the work on The Situation of the World in 1945 then started on the American Model.

I hope the outline of the plan on The Situation was clear enough for you. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any problems though.

You were asked to watch a video of Obama's speech of November 8th 2008 and to pick out all of the references he made to the American model.

Week 5 Monday 27th Sept- 2nd October 2010

This week we finished off the work on your speeches then we gave a general correction. Don't forget that history is history so in the past! You must know how to pronounce dates and how to say the names of countries and towns correctly. Some of you had worked very well on the film side but when it came to talking about yourselves , yuk! it was painful. We really have to work on this and I hope that with the help of the assistant you will have ample opportunity to do so.

You we given some documents on after 1945 which you began to work through on Wednesday during my absence. Your history teacher was there though so we will continue with these next time.

Week 4 Monday Sept 20th-25th 2010

We continued with your speeches this week. They are taking a bit longer than expected which proves you have worked. The reseach you did on the films has been rather interesting however it is the second and more personal part of your work that must be improved.
