This week we continued working on Pop Art by doing an article- painting matching exercise. You, in groups, will have to write an article in class on Monday so be ready.
You should likewise be ready with your own artistic production. You will have to explain it to us next week too. All of this work will be marked of course.

Week 32 Monday June 3rd- 8th 2013
Very little work this week due to the conseils and the euphoria of the last few days at school. I was a bit disappointed in not seeing the 1S, please forgive my absentmindedness, but I had to attend the conseil of the 5th form on Wednesday so could not see you.
Do have a nice holiday and work on your English where ever you may be!

Week 31 Monday May 27th - June 1st 2013
We worked arould Australia this week talking about how the country was colonised by British convicts and settlers then about their bad treatment of the natives. The stolen generation was evoked. I suggested you watch Rabbit Proof Fence, or Australia, to give you an idea of the country and past history.

Only one lesson this week inwhich we finished off the work on the environment. Be ready next Wednesday for your evaluation on the sequence.

This week we finished off the work on the environmant by viewing a few visuals, Tony Blair and Al Gore's , An Inconvenient Truth. Then we viewed Switch Off to the background music of Pink Flloyd and 'Another Brick in The Wall'.
You have to pass in the comprehension work on The River , then be ready for your evaluation on May 15th.

Week 26 Monday April 8th - 13th 2013
This week we continued working on the topic of the environment even though many pupils were on a field trip in Fontainebleau.
We went over the general environmental vocabulary then talked about a particular case of water pollution through viewing the film trailer, Erin Brockovich.
I hope to see you for two hours next Monday since the following week I will be in the European Section exams so will not see you at all. I will check this out with your PP and the administration.
It is possible, though not 100% sure that you could have a test on Wednesday 17th April about the subject of the environment and the problems caused by pollution.

I only saw you once this week due to a 'conseil de classe' on Wednesday. We had the time to refresh our memories about Crime, to move on to the next sequence on the environment and to comment on your marks for the second term.

Week 21 Monday February 18th - 23rd 2013
Welcome back! Yes we hadn't seen each other for a good few weeks, so sorry about that but you will understand better next year when it's your turn.
So we finished working on Michael Moore's film and the chronological order of the events which confirm, according to him, the culture of fear of the Americans and their need for guns.
Afterwards we started checking over the Guardian artile about the documentary film. We'll finish this off next time.
On Wednesday we had the honour of meeting a member of the American Embassy who came to talk to us about civil rights in the USA. Her talk was very interesting, sincere because of her own personal background and optimistic. Thank you for having shared this time with us and opening our eyes to certain experiences which you and your family have experienced at firsthand.
We will pick this up again next week.
Don't forget, however that I promised you a debate about the bearing of arms in the USA. We'll discuss this again in our double period on Monday.

This week we finished off the work on resolutions so don't forget your diary entry for next Monday 21st. We then worked on the shootings in the USA by analysing some cartoons then listening to President Obama's speech after the horrific incident in Newtown, Connecticut last December 14th.

This week we finished working on the Sufragette movement then we viewed a clip with the singer Pink entitled Dear Mr President, so once again a revolt, this time political.

'I have a dream', well this week some of you proved that you could give a speech almost as well as MLK! Seriously though, some of you had worked really hard on this. Well done.

This week we finished off working on Martin Luther King's speech, I have a dream. Don't forget that you haveto be ready to recite it, or I should say , a small part of it next week. You will also have a mini test on the historical information in connection with this period in history.
We then started working on Bad Romance, a sort of a parody on Lady Gaga's original song but this time about the revolt of the suffragists in the USA.
You had to find out what the 15th meant and also the colour red of the clothes worn by the women who said she didn't want suffrage but was satisfied with her lot.

This week we continued working on I have a dream, by M.L. King in our sequence on revolt. We will finish off next week then see another example of fighting for ones rights, the suffragettes.

After brainstorming what or who we connected to this theme and explaining why we moved on to the history of the black slave sin the USA by looking at an advertiement for a slave auction dated 1789.
You were given a document about the slave states to complete and a few things to do research on such as a) Where is Sierra Leone?
b) Find the name of the group of women who fought for their rights at the beginning of last century.
c) What is the difference between Apartheid and segregation?
