Week 34 Monday May 30th-June 4th 2011

This week we continued working around The Environment with a dictation exercise, then a CE on rural pollution. We then started viewing The Meatrix. Below are the three videos, parodies of The Matrix but which have an educative purpose!

Watch them and try to find out what it is !

Week 33 Monday May 23rd-28th 2011

We only saw each other once this week because of an inter high-middle school meeting on Wednesday. We worked on the environment and will continue with this work next week.

In the group work we read a story about the supernatural and strange phenomena then started talking about personal experiences and beliefs. I hope we'll have time to note down a few of these stories before the summer holidays.

Week 32 Monday 16th-21st May 2011

This week you had a test on Billy Elliot on Tuesday then on Wednesday we started on a new sequence The Environment. Don't forget to view the trailer of The Eleventh Hour on You Tube and be ready to answer the questions I gave you.

There was no groupe de competence on Friday because of the STG/ST2S oral exams.

Week 31 Monday May 9th-14th 2011

This last week we went over your last homework and corrected the exercises. Then got back into Billy Elliot, the film. We reviewed part 10 when he received news of his success and his subsequent trip to London.

Newt week you will view the last part of the movie and comment EVALUATION STYLE.

Week 30 Monday May 2nd - 7th 2011

This week we worked both practically and theoretically on Billy Elliot's life and experiences. We will continue with this next week.

You have some work to finish for Tuesday, don't forget please!

In groupes de compétence we worked on the way to write a story. You have one to write for next week.

Week 29 Tuesday 26th-30th April 2011

We started off this week by going over the test you'd had before the holidays. Most of you did quite well.

We then started some work on a text in connection with Billy Elliot, our subject of the moment? You had been chatting far too much actually and I had to give you some written work to canalize your energy!

You must pass this in next Tuesday.

On Wednesday, after an initial recap , we viewed a part of the movie in which Billy was auditioning for a place at the London School of Ballet. You realised that his father had changed his mind about Billy's passion for dancing and that he now supported his son as much as he could. Billy also said, " I've changed my mind" due to stage fright!

We will continue with the film next week.

Week 25 Monday March 28th- April 2nd 2011

This week we only saw each other once due to the passage of the Cambridge Certification exam by those of you who are in the European section. In this lesson we started working on the film Billy Elliot. We watched the trailer to get a general idea then viewed the first part of the film itself. We saw that the film maker set the scene in the 1980s during Margaret Thatcher's term in office as the Conservative Prime Minister. Social disorder was rife and cut backs in the iron and steel industries as well as in mining were numerous. The story of Billy was told with this harsh background. You were asked to try to view the film during the holidays. Don't forget that next week you will be doing year exams and taking part in conferences on the theme of Health. In the group session we finished off your dialogues, which you read out once completed. The dialogue will be one of your options next week in your exam. WORK WELL THEN HAVE A GOOD HOLIDAY!

Week 24 Monday March 21st-26th 2011

This week was spent finishing off the work on" More Like your Sister" about which you were given some homework to do, a letter to an Agony Aunt . You must hand this in next Wednesday 30th . Don't forget there is no lesson on Tuesday since the pupils of the European section will be sitting their CE/EE/CO Cambridge exam.

Let's wish them good luck, shall we!

In the group session we worked on the particularities of a dialogue, layout, special vocabulary used, punctuation and so on. You have to write a dialogue in pairs, putting into practice what you have discovered. You will be completing this work next Friday in class.

Week 22 Monday March 7th-12th 2011

This week we continued working on More Like your Sister which you have to finish off for Tuesday March 22nd. On Wednesday you had your test on Crime and in the group session we worked on the ways to help you understand a written text.

We will be starting on written expression work after the trip to Ireland.

Week 21 Monday Feb 28th -Mars 5th 2011

This week we started a new sequence on San Fransisco, an example of a coastal city. We began by looking at a world map then that of a country in order to situate the town in question correctly. Afterwards you were given two different documents which you had to study and prepare questions about. Team A had to be ready to ask team B for information about their documents .

The exchange of information didn't go as well as we would have liked it to so we will devote a bit more time next week. Don't forget that you are being marked about this as far as the questions and the answers are concerned.

Week 21 Monday Feb 28th -Mars 5th 2011

This week, after the welcome back, we went over your last homework paper and then worked on suppositions using models or their equivalents. You drew up a table about this from work we had already done in previous sessions.

Then we talked about Hitchcock and Sherlock Holmes, the masters of crime and suspense. You gave some information about these well known characters, fictional or real and built up their personalities. This information could be useful next week so don't forget!

We then started a new sequence on parent-children relationships. For this we started looking at the text More like your Sister . We will continue with this next week. Don't forget to do the work I asked you to do and revise for your end of sequence test on Wednesday.

Week 20 Monday Feb 7th-12th 2011

This week we finished off the listening, then started working on suppositions. To do this we used a picture and talked about what we thought had happened and what allowed us to interpret the incident in this way.

You were asked to learn the lesson, to draw up a chart of the expressions of probability and view one of two posts on this blog, under the Crime label . Be ready to talk about them ( Hitchcock or Sherlock Holmes) after the holidays.

Week 19 Monday February 29th- Feb 4th 2011

This week we continued working on the crime theme. After a mini vocab test we listened to The Clock Strikes 12. You were getting into the story quite well so we will finish it off next weekbefore completing our work on the suppositions.

Week 17 Monday January 17th-22nd 2011

This week we worked on crime vocabulary, classifying different words then on Wednesday morning you had your test on Multicultures.

In the group session I worked on the Mystery text with my group, just like my colleague with the others. You will be working with her next week.

Don't forget that because of the Mock exams, orals I will not see you next week. I did give you some work to do though!

Week 16 Monday January 10th - 15th 2011

This week we did some work on a text dealing with multicultures whilst half of the class were on an outing. We shall work on this I hope next week. Then on Wednesday we tried to finish off the work on Karim Amir. You used the different past tenses to talk about him and his family then you had to go through an exercise for homework. We'll check this over next Tuesday.

Don't forget you have your test on Wednesday 19th .

You became acquainted with Mrs J in the group class and we started working on our next sequences which is to be around Crime. We will soon find out who is the best detective amongst us!

Week 15 Monday January 3rd - 8th 2011

Happy New Year!

We started back taking about your New Year's resolutions then refreshing our memories about Karim Amir and his family. In order to do this we played a linking game thus reviewing at the same time the link words we'd been introduced to before the holidays.

Then you started telling me about the Britkids, the teenagers you'd done some research on before coming back to class. We talked about Taz, Anand and John and realised that although they were from different family and cultural backgrounds they did have certain things in common.

I asked you to prepare a similar description for yourselves for next week.

Week 13 Monday Dec 6th-11th 2010

After our initial recap on last weeks work on figures and proportionality we attacked the text about Karim and his family. Some of you really got into it and expressed yourselves very well about the ideas to be found in the text. I was pleasantly surprized to hear sentences like:

"He must have been from a rich family because he was educated."
"He must have liked dancing since he smooched and listened to jazz music."

These of course refer to Karim's father.

You have to finish off the questions for January 4th and don't forget to do the work on Britkid.org inwhich you must choose one of the teenagers and find out the information about his family, food, religion, hassles etc.

I will not be in school all of next week so have a nice end of year holidays. Happy New Year!

Week 12 Monday 29th Nov - Dec 4th 2010

This week, after our initial recap, we worked on numbers and quantities then finished off the listening on The School Report. We managed to get quite a lot of info out of this document which proves that your ears are sharpening up just fine!

I gave you two mini exercises to do on numbers, figures and quantities. Be ready!

Week 11 Monday Nov 22nd-27th 2010

This week we continued on the multicultural theme with your ideas about the visual documents, the quiz and a listening. Of course we didn't finish the listening, far from it infact, but the subject was introduced.

Don't forget the mini test next Wednesday on those irregular verbs and I had asked you to work on figures, counting , dates, time, maths and such too!

Week 10 Monday Nov 15-20 2010

This week we managaed to finish off what we could about the Jamaican Odyssee then started on the Multicultural Sequence. In order to do this we looked at several visual ocuments and described them verbally.

You are to write a few sentences about what we said and we'll check it through next week. I gave you also a quiz to complete. Enjoy!
