Week 33 Monday May 31st - June 5th 2010

We spent most of the time viewing and listening to your exposés on different countries of the English speaking world and their connection with dreams!

Some of you had really done some good serious work. Well done !

Don't forget the question time next Tuesday then our party for the last lesson on Wednesday!

Week 32 Monday May 25th - 29th, 2010

This week we only had two lessons due to my training course on Friday. I was rather annoyed on Tuesday since you were not really ready with your exposés and we had to make do . On Wednesday you had the last written test of the year.

Week 31 Monday 17- 22 May, 2010

What a week! Fortunately there are not a lot like them in the year because you were really ' too much' on Wednesday. As I said I blamed your French Exam but calm down, you must really learn how to manage everything you have to do.

Fortunately, the groups I saw on Friday, taking about an Anglo-Saxon country and dreams, made me think positively about you again. Their work was serious, informative and extremely interesting .

We will continue the exposé work on Tuesday. On Wednesday you will have a written comprehension test then , if necessary we will finish off the exposés the following week.

Week 30 May 10th - 15th 2010

This week you worked around two different American verbal utterances concerning dreams namely M.L.King's ' I Have a Dream' and a poem by Langston Hughes. In groups you had to read the chosen document, understand it and be ready to talk about it to the rest of the class. You were likewise asked to prepare a written commentary of your findings.

We only saw each other twice since you were on an outing with your history teacher on Wednesday.

Don' forget that I am busy next Tuesday giving the STG their oral A level exams. We will have class again on Wednesday when certain groups will be presenting their work on an English speaking country of their choice and its connection with dreams!

Week 29, Monday May 3rd - 8th 2010

This week, having finished off your debate work on Space Exploration we started our last sequence on the English speaking world and its connection with DREAMS. You are working in groups and have to find out about the countries and the connection.
This we spent two sessions on. The rest you will have a week to complete so be ready for the week of the 17th.

Some of you are really working well on this, continue!!!!

Week 28, Monday April 12th - 16th 2010

Having finished off the work on how to debate on Tuesday you were given some time to prepare for your debates on Space Exploration. We filmed your debates on Friday. You had to mark your fellow classmates and I will take into account your comments when awarding the final marks.

There is only one group who haven't been filmed yet so we will finish off the exercise after the holidays.

Week 27 Monday, April 5th- 10th 2010

This week we had class twice because I was out correcting Cambridge on Friday.
During the two lessons we worked on the text New Horizons as well as on different expressions to help us argument our case in a debate.

Next week you will be debating on Space Exploration .

Week 26 March 29th - April 3rd 2010

This week we saw each other twice and in this time you spent one session in the multimedia lab finishing off your reseach on a Space Event, then we started working on a text entitled New Horizons. We will continue with this work next week and work towards our second project which is to have a debate, tv programme style, as to the pros and cons of space exploration.

Don't forget, your first projects have to be in by next Tuesday!

Week 25 Monday, March 22nd- 27th 2010

This week we saw each other only once due to the student movement on Tuesday then on Wednesday I was on a course for the European class. So on Friday we went into the multimedia room and started research on a space event of your choice. You will have to hand in your work on Tuesday after a second lesson in the lab.

Week 24 Monday March 15th - 20th, 2010

This week, having welcomed back the Italians amongst us and bringing them up to date on Space Explorationwe continued by trying to find out information from the other group's text. We cross fired the questions then had, in groups, to write what we had understood.

There was no class on Friday because of your TPE exams.

Week 23 Monday 8th - Friday 13th March 2010

This week we started work on Space exploration and Sputnik, the first satillite launched in 1957 by the Russians. By looking at various short texts and listening to radio broadcasts of the period we realised that the space conquest was very much influenced by the political conquest too!

We finished by starting an activity, that of comparing two articles about the subject. You will have to ask eachother questions to get information about the articles and the subjects.
We will continue with this next week.

Week 21 Monday February 8th - 13th, 2010

This week was devoted to your preparation and presentation of your commercials and advertisements , your final task in the sequence.

I was very pleased with the work you'd put in and spent a good few hours listening to you and your productions. Bravo!

I hope everything goes well for you next week in your EAF mock exams, then try to have a little rest!

Week 20 Monday February 1st - 6th, 2010

This week we continued working around the topic of advertising considering both catchphrases, the impact of advertising on children and through television commercials.

Yo seem to be quite enjoying this topic so I hope you will create some interesting ads yourselves, or commercials. It's up to you!
You will have one lesson next week to prepare together then we'll be viewing you all!

Week 19 Monday January 25th - 30th 2010

THERE WERE NO CLASSES THIS WEEK BECAUSE OF THE MOCK ORAL EXAMS FOR THE UPPER SIXTH CLASSES.

However, don't forget the work I ask you to do for next week !

Week 17 January 11th - 16th 2010

This week I only saw you twice due to my training course for the multimedia lab. Firstly we finished off the text which dealt with the hamburger and the rain forest then on Friday you had your test the environment.

Week 16 January 4th-9th , 2010

This week we started back by working around you New Year's Resolutions and your plans for the coming year. We talked about the main events of the last decade too.

Then on Wednesday we started working on the final text in our sequence on the environment entitled The Hamburger that ate a Rain Forest.

We have to finish off this document next week.

On Friday you had a listening comprehension around the environment on the form of a song entitled Beds are Burning .

We'll finish off the sequence next week.

Week 14 Monday December 7th - 12th 2009

This week, having finished off the work on the video IIth Hour , we worked on the text by Barbara Kingsolver entitled The River , from Animal Dreams .
You understood the text rather well . We also looked into how to write a dialogue and an essay since you have one , it's your choice, to do for January the 5th . The subjects are in connection with the Kingsolver text and the environmental issues in general.

I will not be at school next week so your class hours should be spent working on your essay or dialogue.

Week 13 Monday Nov 30th- 5th Dec 2009

This week we continued working on The 11th HOUR , a film produced by Leonardo DiCaprio about global warming . There were both negative and positive aspects in this document. Of course the situation is catastrophic however we saw that if we react we can save the planet. It is up to the younger generation to do something. They/ you have to inform people about the situation and fight to reduce pollution. If you/they do this then the planet could be saved. If you develop and use sustainable, renewable energies then there will be hope.

On Tuesday evening certain members of the class went to the Residence of the American Ambassador to France to listen to Will Steger talking about this problem. The talk confirmed what we had already seen and we also experienced life in the residence which was rather nice!

You had your test on 'Just Say No' on Friday.

Week 12 Monday 23rd-28th 2009

We started this week listening to your manifestos. Some of them were rather good!
Then we began a new topic namely The Environment. We began by describing certain visual documents in order to introduce the relevant vocabulary . Then we did a fact sharing and exchange activity . Finally we viewed the Eleventh Hour, a film produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, once.

We will be continuing this work next week and don't forget our outing on Tuesday to the American Embassy to see the movie by Will Steger entitled Eyewitness to Global Warming.

Week 11 Monday Nov 16th-21st 2009

This Tuesday we worked on In Thai You Die, an article about a young British girl who had not said, 'No' ! For two lessons we worked around the sense and language of the text .

Before she went to prison she had spent a good time in the country .
She could not phone her parents for help because she had had a problem with them in the past. Because of her pride she refused to contact her parents.

On Friday the group worked on the Manifesto . You became rebels who didn't always know what to say!
