Now let's revolt ! Yes as part of your programme you'll be studying the English Revolution in which Oliver Cromwell took one of the leading roles . Find out about him , when he lived and what he did . To help you here's a video . Surprising as it seems , England still having a recognised Monarchy and all , the country has had it's share of rebels ! Have yopu seen the film V for Vendetta ? It reminds me a lot of that rebel of all times Guy Fawkes . Do feel free to try to find out about these characters . Anyway , here's something about Cromwell while you're waiting .
Let's get down to some art forms such as music , engravings , drawings and so on . John Dowland was , according to Sting , the first pop musician . Why , you may ask yourself ? We'll listen here and you'll find out . Try to imagine yourself back there in the 16th-17th century wanting to sing about your feelings , rebel against authority and tradition , talk about your girlfriend .... well that's exactly what JD did !!!
To finish off why not look at a bit of art ? William Hogarth was quite a lad ! He tended to shock everybody whilst revealing social convention , hypocritical customs and ideas . His engravings and other works are a social lesson for us all . Before viewing his master pieces view this extract which gives us a good indication as to how he worked . Don't be shocked , his work and the people he associated with were as human as you or I .
