Week 20 Monday Febuary 2nd - 7th 2009

This week , those of you present ( ! ) , spent your time working around The Threshold of a New World in which we learnt about the experiences , on Ellis Island , of a young immigrant , an educated man and probably from a good family .
However he was treated as an animal , passed on from room to room just like the others , forced to cough and breathe as well as made to bent over in order to satisfy the 'big fat man's ' feeling of superiority !

'The female doctor with cold eyes ' looked at him as if he were a madman 'when he told her he was a writer and became more and more disgusted as he continued to talk confidently about his intellectual merit !
Little did he know then , what he obviously discovered once he had been accepted in the USA , that it is very difficult to earn a living through writing and that others normally didn't take you very seriously when you admit to it !!!!!

He was young since he described the Island officials physically and didn't seem to be aware of the seriousness of his situation . He was ambitious and wished he could live in a luxury apartment overlooking a park . He wished he had a lovely Norwegian wife . He saw himself as a successful author living in style and wealthy . He wished he could fulfil the American dream . He wished he could start from scratch in this new world and climb the social ladder .

You will need to know the background elements as well as this document fairly well for your comprehension test next Thursday , February 12 th .

On Friday , with group B , we did a general review of the basic tenses .

Next Friday , February 13th everyone should be present , unless you are on an outing with you class teacher . There is a written expression paper on the subject of Immigration , so come ready with the necessary vocabulary fixed in your heads !!!!!
