Week 10 November 17th - 22nd 2008

This week we started on our next sequence concerning the Black Population and the Power of Words . To begin , once we'd brainstormed certain associations we listened to I Have A Dream , by Martin Luther King . This moved you quite a lot !
We pulled together the main ideas of the speech and talked about the way it had been delivered .

We then read the poem , A Dream Deferred , by Langston Hughes . This you had to read again and prepare for the following session .

On Wednesday we discussed possible meanings of the poem and placed it in a time line .
You were asked to sum up all our comments for the next time .

In the group lesson we followed the evolution of the black population through visual documents . In groups you then had to write a dialogue in which one of the children of the fifth photo , talking with an elder member of the family ,learns about the past and projects into the future . You had the choice between a black or a white child ! This work is to be handed in next week .
